General information on the Hong Kong ten Dollar polymer note

Hong Kong ten Dollar polymer note

Legislative Council brief / Legal tender notes issue ordinance (CAP 65) / Trial issue of 10 Dollar polymer notes in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, 10 Dollars, issued in 2007. The abstract design of the bank note makes impressionistic references to the spirit of modern architecture in Hong Kong. It also captures elements of festive and cultural activities in Hong Kong and China. Bauhinia flower, which has been Hong Kong's emblem since 1965, appears as a part of the clear window. The flower, Bauhinia Blakeana, is named after Sir Henry Blake, Hong Kong Governor from 1898 to 1903, who had a strong interest in botany. The flower can grow up to 8 metres tall and flowers in late winter or early spring. It is sometimes called the Hong Kong orchid tree and appears on Hong Kong's flag.
