A $10,000 polymer bank note from Brunei was issued in 2006. The face value of the banknote exceeds USD 7000, which makes it the highest face value note in the world. This large-size polymer bank note (180 x 90 mm) is also the first in the world whose design includes a clear window that extends to the very edge of the note.
The Brunei $10,000 note features a portrait of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the 29th and current Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei. With an estimated net worth of USD 20 billion, the Sultan is one of the richest individuals in the world and the world's wealthiest monarch. The back of the note shows the Legislative Council of Brunei, the country's unicameral parliament. It has 29 members, all appointed by the Sultan.
