The 5 Rupee promotional bank note was reportedly produced by Securency Pty Ltd and presented to Nepal Rastra Bank for eventual approval. The bank never decided to issue this note. Two varieties of notes were made, one with and one without the specimen overprint. All notes bear the same serial number Nga22 882182. This promotional note is a modification (there are significant design changes) of the then-circulating 5 Rupee paper note. The promotional note is made of two layers of one-side-litho-printed paper substrate, which are then glued together. There is a hole in the paper substrate where the clear window is and a small piece of polymer is placed between the two paper layers to create a polymer window. It is unknown how many such pieces were made (it would be a very limited quantity in any case), but it is speculated that about 10 pieces were stolen by an employee of the Nepal Rastra Bank; these pieces now seem to be private hands.
