On eBay, Mr Au-Yeung was selling item #3948257489, an AUD100 1996 test note, described as "R616 test note AZ in UNC $$$$900.00 Rinnicks [sic] value". After an explicit question about the condition of the note, he confirmed that the note is UNC and only after that a bid was placed. Mr Au-Yeung received payment of AUD470.00 by wire transfer (account details: Keat Shee, BSB 733186, A/C 558173, Westpac Bank, Dandenong Branch, Australia), and he sent the note to the buyer. It is unclear whether the two names are aliases. The note was in EF condition and a refund was requested. Mr Au-Yeung declined to refund the money and offered to send a replacement note in UNC condition, which was accepted. After the original note was returned to Mr Au-Yeung, the buyer received a new note, which was again in EF condition. No further correspondence was possible, as Mr Au-Yeung's e-mail address appears to be no longer in use. It is important to note that AUD100 test notes in circulated (EF) condition can be easily obtained from circulation and thus carry no significant premium over their face value. Mr Au-Yeung's fraud, including the cost of registered airmail and subtracting the face value of the note, thus cost the buyer an estimated sum of AUD400.00.
