Press statement on the new K1,000 and K500 polymer notes

The Bank of Zambia wishes to advise members of the public that there is a problem with the serial numbering of the issued polymer banknotes of 1,000 kwacha and 500 kwacha denominations. This problem affects only the few notes so far issued which do not exceed four and half million kwacha (K4.5 million) in value. These notes still remain legal tender. 

The Bank wishes to assure the members of the public that a solution to address the problem has been identified and is being implemented expeditiously. The distribution schedule for the polymer notes will not be significantly affected.
