Nepal Rastra Bank, the country's central bank, has signed a contract with Note Printing Australia (NPA), a subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of Australia, to supply 50 million polymer ten rupee banknotes. The order, worth some AUD 4 million, follows an order won by NPA in 2002 to supply an initial 50 million polymer ten rupee notes. In circulation for over a year, the notes were a first for Nepal. The polymer notes have been well received and NPA hopes that the Nepal Rastra Bank will "polymerise" other denominations soon.
