Description 1

 

Twenty Kina Note

 

Denomination: Twenty Kina note.

 

Year Reprinted: 1997.

 

Material: Paper.

 

Colours: Red and Multicoloured.

 

Features (Obverse)

 

On the front of this Banknote the main item of design is the National Emblem as is the case with each of the other values. The engraving is the same size as that seen on the TEN KINA value but the areas of the two colours used in its printing are located differently. The local art form patterns surrounding the value numerals represent an impressionist lineal pattern of a pig. The background tints consist of lineal patterns incorporating various items of interest from different areas of Papua New Guinea.

Features (Reverse)

 

On the back of the note in the central montage vignette, the main item is the Head of a Boar, the nature of which is peculiar to Papua New Guine. Also included in the Main montage in the Toea Arm Band from Central Province, a Crowrie Shell Necklace from Madang Area and Shell Ornamnt peculiar to the Western Province. In addition the local design surrounding the values is representative of a 'Bridge' as designed by Willie Stevens.

 

The background tints incorporate lineal patterns based on actual designs of various items as follows :-

  • Designs taken from a Mount Hagen Axe and Shield from the Highlands

  • Designs taken from Tapa Cloth from the Northern Province

  • Designs from a Kap Kap of the Manus Area

  • Decorations from a Shield from the Gulf Area

  • Decorations from a 'Food Hok' from the Milne Bay Area

  • Design typical of the Central Province

  • Complex clear window which incorporates a vignette of the logo of the Bank of Papua New Guinea

  • Translucent shadow image of the Bank of Papua New Guinea logo which is visible when held up to the light

  • The numeral "20" is embossed in the clear window

  • Overprint Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Bank of Papua New Guinea. As you tilt the note at certain angles, the intensity of the bright gold decreases to a pale gold

  • Offset printing (flat printing) of background security patterns

  • Slightly raised printing of "20", Twenty Kina, National Crest, Legal Tender Clause and words "Bank of Papua New Guinea"

  • Back serial numbers that fluoresce green/yellow under UV light
