Kuwait, 1 Dinar, issued in 1993. Not a legal tender. Issued in commemoration of the Second Anniversary of the Liberation Day. The sovereignty of the State of Kuwait was restored, following the Iraqi occupation, on the 26th of February 1991. The liberation of Kuwait was achieved by the 34 countries of the United-Nations-sponsored Allied Coalition, all named on the front of the note. Front: A map of Kuwait at centre and the Coat of Arms of Kuwait at top right. Back: Burning oil wells at left and the Seif Palace, the Amir’s administrative headquarters at centre. Scenes of joyous reunion and celebration after the liberation at right.

The three brown dots found at the centre-right on the obverse are actually three Kuwaiti islands (Kubbar, Qaruk and Umm Al-Maradin from North to South). While the main off-shore island of Failakka is clearly shown in colours conforming with the mainland, the three lesser islands seem to be added later, as a separate printing process.

A Kuwaiti soldier holding the national flag at left. A girl drawing four doves as a symbol of peace on the wall at right.
