Indonesia, 50,000 Rupiah, issued in 1993. This bank note was issued to commemorate the 25 years of the Indonesian development, i.e., the success of the first long-term 25-year development period, beginning in 1969 and ending in 1994. Front: President Soeharto (resigned in 1988) as the Father of Indonesian Development with the representation of various sectoral developments (culture, agriculture, infrastructure, education, chemical industry) in the background. Bank Indonesia issued 500 million of Rp 100,000 plastic notes in anticipation of an increased demand demand for cash as a result of worries about the Year 2000 computer bug. According to the Bank Indonesia’s deputy governor Aulia Pohan’s 1999 statement, the central bank would print up to Rp 50 trillion value of the new Rp 100,000 notes before the new year. Pohan also said the new Rupiah bank notes would be made of polymer substrate plastic, adding the material would last for about six years and help prevent counterfeiting.

S2R1a has been printed by NPA. S2R1b has been printed by NPW and the first serial number prefix for this issue is APA. Apart from serial number prefixes, there are no visible differences between the two issues.

Genuine specimen notes have zero serial numbers. There are counterfeited 'specimen' notes on the market that are handstamped 'SPECIMEN TIDAK BERLAKU' in red ink. These notes have regular (circulating) serial numbers and are worthless (save the face value).

Indonesia, 100,000 Rupiah, issued in 1999. This bank note was one of the key measures for the preparation for the Millennium Bug. The Bank of Indonesia wanted to accumulate a stock of bank notes in the event the computer systems crashed. 500 million notes have been printed. Front: Indonesia's founding President Soekarno and Vice-President Mohammad Hatta. Soekarno's portrait, first appearing on Indonesian bank notes in 1950, was removed after Soeharto seized power in 1965 and was reintroduced on this note. The text from the Indonesia's 1945 independence proclamation in the centre. Back: The House of Representatives building.
