Next week, a new bank note of 2000 Pesos will be issued. It is made of a material similar to plastic and is, therefore, resistant to water and difficult to falsify.
It is expected that around Monday, 7th of September, the new bank note begins to circulate in the wallets of the Chileans. Its material, similar to plastic, prolonges the life of the note, today 11 months, four times.
The treasurer of the Central bank, Iván Montoya, maintained that "one of the characteristics of the new bank note that we wish to emphasize is the resistance to the liquids, which gives it a better resistance if placed in a washing machine".
But that is not the main news. The most important fact is the incorporation of new elements of security. There are two transparent windows, external and internal microimpressions and a translucent image that replaces the current watermark. These security elements are difficult to copy and to reproduce illegally.
"When a copy bank note is made, the clear window becomes black and it is very easy to distinguish a false bank note from a genuine one. In fact, in the countries that have introduced the plastic bank notes, the counterfeiting is minimal", comments the President of the Central Bank of Chile, Vittorio Corbo.
The bank note was printed in Australia and it completely resembles the paper bank note, giving time to the cash dispensing machines and to the public to become familiar with plastic notes.
