Strong
interest of people in polymer 10 Taka notes |

Strong interest and excitement has been noticed in
the general public in the new 10 Taka polymer note. Last Thursday Bangladesh
Bank has issued the polymer note in the marketand, this is the first banknote
made of polymer in the subcontinent. Large number of people crowded to collect the new 10 Taka polymer note from the counter of the Bangladesh Bank from 9 O’clock in the morning. Hundreds of people stood in long que in front of the different counters of Bangladesh Bank to collect the new polymer notes. Noticing such a high demand for the new polymer note, police were brought-in to control the crowd but under the pressure of people the glass panel of counter number 17, 21 and 22 were shattered.
On the other hand, a group of people after
collecting the note from the bank counter started to sell those to the waiting
crowd at a high premium, in some case it was sold at Taka 15 to 20.
The Currency officer of Bangladesh bank were
approached by the different banks, departments and Bangladesh Bank officials
eager to get the new note. Notable, the polymer (plastic) note is smaller is size than the present 10 Taka note, it is light reddish color, the national symbol SAPLA is in the clear window. On one side is the portrait of Bangabandhu and picture of Baitul Mukarran mosque, on the other side is the National Parliament, Savar National Martryed Memorial and a Dish Antenna as well as a logo of Bangladesh Bank, the note has a security thread.
